Acclaimed composer A.R. Rahman helps launch Ideal Entertainment

With the launch of its new film and music production and distribution arm, the Ideal Group of Companies is set to take on new frontiers, with acclaimed composer A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire) in its fold.

Ideal Entertainment was officially launched at a red carpet event at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts on Thursday, Feb. 2. At the launch, Ideal announced its first two projects, Le Musk and 99 Songs.

Rahman wrote and directed Le Musk, a virtual reality short, and 99 Songs, a feature length romantic musical which is currently in postproduction.

“I’m looking forward to continuing my collaboration with Ideal Entertainment because they truly understand the sensibilities of the audiences I’m trying to reach through my projects,” he said. “On a personal level, I know the people at Ideal Entertainment have worked hard to come up in life, so they share the important value I put on hard work.”

Shaji Nada, president and CEO of the Ideal Group of Companies, said the partnership with Rahman was natural given the star’s boundary-breaking work and Ideal’s desire to appeal to a wide-reaching and evolving audience.

“As we live in an increasingly interconnected world we recognize that audiences today have an appetite for innovative content,” he said. “Ideal Entertainment aims to be the leader in this type of content creation and we are proud to partner with A.R. Rahman who pushes boundaries.”

The partnership coincides with the 25th anniversary of Rahman’s first foray into film. He first made a name for himself in Indian cinema in 1992, producing musical scores for dozens of films before crossing over into North American cinema with scores for Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours and others.

Ideal Entertainment will celebrate Rahman’s long-running career with Ideal Dreams, an event featuring music, theatre and dance set to the composer’s work, at the Sony Centre on Saturday, Feb. 4. Proceeds from the show will go to the A.R. Rahman Foundation, which supports musical and performance training for economically disadvantaged children around the world.
